Founded in 1979 in Hawaii and now based in Hood River, Oregon, USA, Dakine's founder Rob Kaplan was the go to guy for leash repairs. This lead Rob to develop bomb proof leashes.
In 1980 Dakine developed the first adjustable windsurf foot strap and by 1982 the waist harness.
In 1986 the focus point of windsurfing, Dakine's largest market, had shifted to Hood River, Oregon. Proximity to Mount Hood, with its world class ski slopes, lead to the development of Dakine's essentials only snow pack - one of Dakine's most iconic products.
Today Dakine covers most extreme sports categories with a wide range of high performance robust products.
